Sterile Landscape

I am a landscape photographer. There is nothing more I enjoy than getting out into nature and spending time with my camera and being in the moment capturing the natural world that surrounds me. There are however some "sterile Landscape" images. The feeling of being, with the “wind in my hair”, more often the rain. Plowing through mud and water, up and out predawn and sometimes back in after the sun has gone down. just being at one with...

Uncertainty, Doubt and Absolute belief

Uncertainty Its 5 am and I am looking out the window trying to decide whether to go out or not. Just what I am going to see in the pitch-black is uncertain. There are no clouds, and the stars shine brightly down. Go back to bed or go out. No argument really, I have to go out, but what to? What will I find when I get to where I am going? There is a huge cloud bank that I can see which does not bode well for the sunrise. But! The mist....

The Gear I use

Gear. While I am not particularly a gear person, I thought it might be interesting to have a look at the gear I use and why I use it Photo Bag F.stop Shuka. The week Christmas was cancelled

A week What a strange week it has been. Technically I'm on holiday but as ever, there are always small bits to do and to follow up on. Plans Let’s start with the plans I had. On holiday so up at dawn, walk along the river and take some more dawn shots. Dark outside

I am stood in my kitchen watching the clock. It is the nosiest thing in here. The second-hand clicks around as it has done since it was put up 33 years ago in 1987. Behind me the window; outside it’s dark. Really too dark to assess whether to go out or not. In the end, the desire to escape wins and regardless of what is to come, I step out into a blustery morning. It’s not cold despite being near the end of November which is a surprise, a...

Another Dawn, Another day

Early Morning Sometimes it is just the act of getting up to capture the dawn that is all you need. The quiet of the early morning, the way your breath mists in the chill air. The crunch of fallen leaves beneath your feet. You want to stay in bed, but the lure of the outdoors is stronger, and you find yourself walking in a half-light towards an empty field. Today is no different complete with all the above; plus the mist. That light low lying...
