Silence

What do you hear in the silence? The gaps in the music. The still pages of a book. When the last car has screeched its way around the bend and hacked off in a plume of oil smoke. When the last stragglers and drunken revellers finally collapse in a quiet moan somewhere. What do you hear? Books I have a new book. Well, I call it new I have had it a few months but still, go back to it. The title is Nordisk Stilhed by a Danish photographer...

Quiet Time

Quiet. It pervades the area like a blanket. As I lie on the bed looking at the little rivulets of rain after running down the Velux windows all I can hear is the ticking clock and the soft gurgle of the mill stream as it passes by the apartment am in for the next few days. Late evening

Late evening, the air has cooled from the heat of the day. The ever-present grumble of life has died. A light wispy cloud hangs high in the night sky. Below, a zephyr of wind swirls around. It feels clean, crisp. As the noise dies the space around grows. In inner piece envelopes building slowly from inside growing slowly. At once calming and easing the stress and strains of the days. Stars come out slowly one by one. Some hidden by the...

The River at Dawn

The river that is 5 minutes from my house has always had a problem. There is a constant rumbling his that I had presumed was from the town bypass. This is not the case. The noise comes from a sluice that I have to walk past.  Bit of a “doh” moment there. At 4.30 am on a Sunday morning there is little or no traffic about. So, it became apparent that I have been wrong. That the cascading water was considerably noisier than I had ever...
