Evening sky

Long after the sun has fallen below the horizon the evening sky is still tinged with a pink hue. Stars are just coming out into the night sky which in places is a deep blue-black. Time to lie down and travel into the fathomless void of space, in which we are so small. The air is still, there is no breeze to move the unrelenting heat of the day on. Yes, it has been hot. The heat is one thing, but the humidity is the killer. Just walking...

Trees

I am not far from my car. Lying on a recently felled pine tree, in amongst other trees, looking at the light grey sky through new leaves and branches hoping that the rain will hold off just a little longer. The Sea

My first love is the sea. I cannot tell you why but standing next to the shore, in a boatyard, harbour or just in an estuary I feel real peace. Just listening to the noises of the area. Where are you concentrating your viewers’ attention? How will you direct their gaze to where you want it? By using depth of field, you can isolate things within the frame to accentuate the part where you want...

Instructions for better images

Instructions Life and photography are an emotional roller coaster with no instructions. Nothing on how to start, stop, change the speed or direction. You just sit there getting caught up in everything on a daily basis and then you wake up one morning and wonder where the past few years have gone. In a photographic sense, this includes looking at and buying “better” and definitely more expensive equipment. Stupid O’clock starts and...
