The Small Stuff

Recently there has been an advert on TV I cannot remember who it was for, but they said to look for and enjoy the small stuff. It is those bits you will remember. The big bits will come but the small bits are where it is at. Dawn I love the dawn. The gradual eruption of light cascading across the landscape. The colours and the different hues of those colours make for a spectacular show every time I witness it. But...

Late evening

Late evening, the air has cooled from the heat of the day. The ever-present grumble of life has died. A light wispy cloud hangs high in the night sky. Below, a zephyr of wind swirls around. It feels clean, crisp. As the noise dies the space around grows. In inner piece envelopes building slowly from inside growing slowly. At once calming and easing the stress and strains of the days. Stars come out slowly one by one. Some hidden by the...

The River at Dawn

The river that is 5 minutes from my house has always had a problem. There is a constant rumbling his that I had presumed was from the town bypass. This is not the case. Evening sky

Long after the sun has fallen below the horizon the evening sky is still tinged with a pink hue. Stars are just coming out into the night sky which in places is a deep blue-black. Time to lie down and travel into the fathomless void of space, in which we are so small. The air is still, there is no breeze to move the unrelenting heat of the day on. Yes, it has been hot. The heat is one thing, but the humidity is the killer. Just walking...

Trees

I am not far from my car. Lying on a recently felled pine tree, in amongst other trees, looking at the light grey sky through new leaves and branches hoping that the rain will hold off just a little longer. It’s a moment of peace. One of many that I have had today. Away from the clamour and confusion of modern life. I do not even have a mobile signal. It is just me and the silence that is punctuated by birds and the occasional squirrel...

A Layered Landscape

A Layered landscape I am stood in the gateway of a field in Essex, near to Epping Forest. The landscape is spread out before me. It catches my thoughts and once more I exult in being alive. This is so beautiful. This is different from fenland; this landscape undulates with hills. The countryside rolls away from me shadows being cast in the valleys and dips. The constant question now is “what lies behind?” Hedgerows and trees...
