I Miss it

Earlier this year my life took a fundamental change. For medical reasons I was, and still am unable to get outside. Get to the places I love. While I can still drive, I cannot walk any distance so the ease of popping off along the river just to escape and revel in the natural world has ceased. I have written before about taking stuff for granted and now it appears that is exactly what I was doing. Taking stuff for granted...

The Sea

There is something about the coast and the sea that gets to me. The sounds sights and smells all work together and whether it is for 5 mins or 5 hours’ time spent there always leaves me relaxed and refreshed. So, it was a couple of weeks ago when I went to Wells Next the Sea. The harbour and latterly the beach. The Small Stuff

Recently there has been an advert on TV I cannot remember who it was for, but they said to look for and enjoy the small stuff. It is those bits you will remember. The River at Dawn

The river that is 5 minutes from my house has always had a problem. There is a constant rumbling his that I had presumed was from the town bypass. This is not the case. So, it became apparent that I have been wrong. That the cascading water was considerably noisier than I had ever...

Evening sky

Long after the sun has fallen below the horizon the evening sky is still tinged with a pink hue. Stars are just coming out into the night sky which in places is a deep blue-black. Time to lie down and travel into the fathomless void of space, in which we are so small. The air is still, there is no breeze to move the unrelenting heat of the day on. Yes, it has been hot. The heat is one thing, but the humidity is the killer. Just walking...

Trees

I am not far from my car. Lying on a recently felled pine tree, in amongst other trees, looking at the light grey sky through new leaves and branches hoping that the rain will hold off just a little longer. It’s a moment of peace. One of many that I have had today. Away from the clamour and confusion of modern life. I do not even have a mobile signal. It is just me and the silence that is punctuated by birds and the occasional squirrel...
